B-girl Practice Session Aug 2008

bgirl_by_karla_areli(art from here)
I got footage from a practice session from August 2008! Wow! What a different world that was! That’s not even three years ago, but SO MUCH has changed. I was so into b-girling back then…not so much the case any more. I hardly dance at all anymore, period. Am thinking I may get back into it…but I don’t know about breaking. It’s so hardcore! I’m an old ...

Joaquin Miller Park Trails

A few days ago, I felt inspired to visit some trails I used to beat many years ago, when I lived in another city. I was shocked I was still able to find the exact trails I used to frequent! I just kept on driving, waiting for familiar markers, left, right, left, right, making turns, eyes open, trying to figure out where I was going…and ended up at my old trails! It was amazing. The scenery was gorgeous and the ...

Are You a Magic Seeker? ->By ChickenTuna

I. love. this. Great motivation! For me…and to spread to my clients! When they are quibbling about not seeing results after one workout and one clean meal…or people asking me about how effective L-Carnitine is or anything else…yet their diet is not 100%…I want to say “what’s the point??”…no supplement can counteract an inconsistent diet…Anyway, “ChickenTuna” has been a contributing member of BodySpace (associated with BodyBuilding.com) for many years now and her abs are more than memorable. Yes, I know ...

Jiu Jitsu Tourney> Now Hittin tha Weights

My first official jiu jitsu tournament was last Saturday (two days ago).

I was excited for the tournament for a long time!

On last Tuesday, though, in jiu jitsu class we were supposed to wrestle. This big guy threw me to the ground and I pulled a hip flexor 🙁 I took it easy for the rest of the week, and was still excited for the tournament, but a little weary and cautious. Saturday morning I got into fight mode! I did ...

Boxing is Fun

I had a fun workout day last Wednesday! In the morning I checked out a wrestling class and learned a little bit about what you can do if you botch a double leg takedown (cough cough all my double legs are botched- they’re hard!!) and they sprawl on you. Later on in the day, I worked with a new trainer at Functional Core Fitness named Eliza Olson. She’s new to FCF, but not new to boxing or instructing. ...

Post-Thailand & First Official Jiu jitsu Tournament

It’s been two weeks and 6 days since I left Thailand.

I left Thailand and had a long layover in Korea, where I was privileged enough to explore some of Seoul with Adam of SEE Adam Train. 🙂

After that, next stop was California and I was surprised to not experience horrible culture shock, jet lag, or existential malaise upon arrival.

I felt remarkably refreshed and hopeful. The fast lifestyle and stress has slowly been creeping back into my life, but I ...

Jiu Jitsu Drills Video

Wow, it’s almost time! Tomorrow is my last day…I leave at night. I am being consistent in my training these past few days, and it’s jolly fun. This trip been so amazing and I have learned SO much! Thank you to all my teachers and partners!

Yesterday Andrew and I filmed the beginning part of our jiu jitsu private lesson that followed the morning MMA class. One take. I’m super-sweaty but whatevz. I am trying to share with the world interesting ...
