“At long last a Yelp! from a wannabe foodie… about a fitness bootcamp…
I am completely amused by the fact that my first Yelp is about a fitness bootcamp, but I find it entirely appropriate because anyone in the area who is shelling out for a gym membership, personal training and classes so they can continue to enjoy their 11 course meals, should know about Kristina. She is that bad ass. Sure her degrees and certifications were impressive to hear about, but when she follows it up with a one armed pike you know you are going leave her class hurting in some muscles you never knew you had.
To clarify, this is not a boot camp, it’s personal training camp. Kristina is a personal trainer by profession but started weekly camps as a way to get people into a schedule of regular dynamic movement workouts, and not charge you the personal training fee, so take her up on it!! She remembers everyone and everything, and adapts workouts tailored to the goals of the each member of the group.
Throw yourself into it and you will feel it the next day (made that mistake), but you’ll feel better every day after. What I liked the most was how much she tailored a group workout to the individual. For all the former athletes out there with damaged shoulders and knees, B-Girl feels your pain. She showed me how to adapt the exercises to strengthen and tighten the muscles around an old shoulder injury while keeping the weight off it. Her use of TRX is my personal favorite for it’s combination of strength training and adaptability. The first time I ever tried TRX was about a year ago, and I threw myself into it, not knowing what I was getting myself into. I was in a class somewhere at a climbers gym or something, being yelled at through a microphone, and I just threw myself into it doing all of my exercises at maximum angle, and I’m pretty sure I hurt myself by the time I was done. Kristina watches each one of her trainees and helps them to adapt each of the exercises to not only their current health and fitness level, but also to give them that little push to let them know what’s next. One handed pushups anyone? She’ll get you there…
Next week… one handed pike!”
