yah, I’m a freakazoid.
I’ve been CRAVING weird ass foods. Can I get a zebra please? I’ve been stalking the crevices of the internet, loading up shopping carts at internet retailers that sell exotic measts such as kangaroo, ostrich, elk, and so forth…only to ALMOST check out, then not…then later come back and do the same thing again and again. One time, actually, I DID check out but when I was at Paypal, it crashed, and then I snapped back to reality and took it as a blessing in disguise.
Despite this, I couldn’t quite hold out and visited the local Ranch 99, which is a large Chinese supermarket with some weird shit! Not exotic meats, per se, but more weird bone things and organsssss. I picked up the weirdest stuff I could find! Pork brains, pork uterus, neck bones, gizzards, liver, feet, beef tendon, etc etc….and it was amazing. I googled how to cook the shiz, and a lot of Paleo sites came up that were actually super helpful! So I soaked the goods in water, salt, vinegar, lemon juice, and soy sauce for a few hours to expunge some of the bitterness. Then I rinsed it all in cold water, then threw it all in a crockpot with bay leaves, curry powder, cumin, tumeric, garlic, etc….and it turned out awesome! Even my roommate said it smelled divine! I gobbled it all up and it felt super healing. Turns out organ meats are nutritional powerhouses, with various organs being high in iron, vitamin A, collagen, and so forth! Guess my body knew that and hence the cravings!
Yeah, I still want to eat some weird stuff. My nutrition coach Michelle approves the meats insofar as she is a proponent of flexible dieting….her only hesitation is that the nutritional information of, say, pork uterus, is not well documented. So I am kind of guesstimating the macros, and that’s not what she would prefer me to do when I am so close to my show. I get it. But I am still salivating over the thought of strange meats and organs.
Here are some interesting articles/sites I checked out when I was googling stuff!
